Bamboozle/Bronchitis.

A week has passed since I set off out in my car, best friend in the passenger seat, headed for New Jersey. Destination? Bamboozle 2009. Last year I went. Loved every second. Especially since my favorite band, The Academy Is..., played. This year, still loved it, maybe not as much though.

Saturday was fun and sun. Sunday was rain and pain. I now have bronchitis. It's horrible. I hate being in on Friday nights.

I feel that Bamboozle is more of a social experiment that is based around music. I saw a bunch of people I knew from all over the place. Made new friends, got reaccquainted with the old. Some of them I was glad I only see once or twice a year...

Bands I saw (that I can remember off the top of my head): The Cab, Forever The Sickest Kids, Cage The Elephant, Rise Against, A Rocket To The Moon, Cobra Starship, No Doubt, 3OH!3... I know I saw more... just can't remember.

By the way, I'm not a huge No Doubt fan, but I COMPLETELY recommend seeing them live if you can. High energy, sound just like their records. Gwen Stefani is unbelievable. How old is that woman?! She looks/acts like she's nineteen! I love her!

Two months ago I was staying in a hostel in New Orleans and accidently dropped my favoritest camera in a toliet. I brought my SLR to the 'boozle, but without a great lens on it, all my pictures turned out pretty shitty. My polariod camera broke too. I am having horrible luck with cameras as of late. Maybe I'll add some pictures. I dunno.

I met Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes in the parking lot outside my hotel in the wee hours of Monday morning. Such a nice guy. He shook my hand and said, "Hi. I'm Travie." and I just beamed, squealing, "I KNOW!". Ahahhaaa. You have to love those moments.

Did anyone go to Bamboozle?! I want to hear about your adventures. Mine weren't too thrilling. It was a fun road trip though!

One Sheep, Two Sheep... I Give Up.

I believe I have insomnia. Like many others, when I cannot sleep I like to write. Writing is a form of expression, a form of free speech (only with puncuation). I wanted to be a writer for quite some time, but now I'm not so sure. There are so many interesting, exciting careers or paths to pursue... and I have too many interests that I can't count them all on my fingers and toes.

I used to say that I just want to live on a fire escape, in the springtime, in New York City. That's my blissful place. Have you ever heard someone say, "Just go to your happy place" when you're feeling, you know, a little down and out? (Bahah- catch the The Academy Is... reference I just threw in there?) Well, instead of picturing, say a beach on a not-too-hot, not-too-cold day, I picture my rusted, peeling wrought iron fire escape in the middle of millions. I wish I could be there now.

I'm on break at the moment. When I have time for myself (which isn't very often) I like to read. I re-read Sloppy Firsts and Second Helpings each in two days. I hadn't read them for three years, and now that I have I appreciate their humor and eighties references more and more that tended to slip right over my head those years ago. I feel like I have been getting a bit senile lately, hell, I wont even go see romantic comedies anymore because I tend to claim they are "too predictable". But what I like about these Megan McCafferty books are that they take me back to high school, when you're confused by that oh-so-mysterious-hunk and just confused in general. I love it, and I cannot get enough. There are three books that preceed those two. I have read the third, but tomorrow I will begin re-reading it. When I find time to get to a bookstore I'll get numbers four and five. I highly recommend these.

See, I don't know if anyone is reading this. This is just a sampling of what goes through my head, just typed out in a journal on Buzznet. By the way, I love you, Buzznet. And you, if you're reading this.

I have officially caved into the twitter craze. Sadly, when I find out someone is following me, it makes me feel rather special, almost important in a way. Someone cares.

If you are looking for a buddy to follow, or you check up on my buzznet, add me on twitter!

It will be fun, I pinky promise. I actually recommend it. CAVE. GIVE IN TO THE PRESSURE.

Maybe I'm the only one who felt it? Hmmm. Tell me your thoughts. I'd like to know.

Anway, here it is! http://twitter.com/ehhokay

Alice Never Went To Wonderland...

I've been on a couple of adventures recently and would like to take a moment and share.

I went to NYC and realized that if I don't live there I might die. If you've never been, I recommend dropping whatever you are doing, stop reading this, and get on a plane/hijack a car/ beg your mother to buy you a bicycle... just get there!

I took my Polariod with me. He (Herbert is his name... and yes, I did just make that up on the spot) is very picky about who he decides to snap & develop. I think I took the grand total of four photographs, which I have yet to scan... but once I do, I promise to share them with you, my dear friend. Let me educate you on the going exstinct polariod film- if you live in the US of A you can go to CVS and get a pack of ten for twenty dollars. Yes, that was TWENTY dollars. Money, sadly, does not grow on trees and I am not a very good job-keeper sooo I have to be very selective about pushing the button.

In New York, I realized that I need more NYC friends. I have a couple there- but none I could be 'Yo, homeslice, can I crash at your place tonight?' (Yes, I do in fact speak that way). I need to be more cultured in a New York City kinda way. Please tell me if you know of anything interesting I can do there this summer. I'm hoping to just go there and be. You know, no purpose, just living.

Other than the New York trip, I recently took a lil' vacation time and got some much needed sun with my familia. IN DISNEY WORLD. It was sick, and made me feel ten, twelve years younger. Living in Boston, winter can be brutal. More brutal than the bracelet, might I add. When I got back... which was when? yesterday?... I looked in the mirror and realized that you can see my freckles! That made me so happy becuase it reminds me of Pippy Longstocking and she's a BAMF whom I love dearly.

Have you ever been to Disney World? What's Disney Land like?! I've always wanted to go.

Hit me up, homeslices. I miss Buzznet. xx

I know, I know... for the past two weeks I've been a little MIA. Lots has been going on, and as most of you can sympathize, buzznet sometimes gets lost along the way.

To make it up to you, myself, and buzznet I have decided to embark on a little project.

Starting tomorrow I will be posting a love themed photograph every day up until the looming date of February 14th.

For a singelton, I will admit that I can be a little bit bitter when it comes to this date. Just laugh along with me, don't take offense. To all the lovebirds out there- have a happy one... and share an extra dessert for me, okay?

An Essay...

I'm taking a course in Creative Writing this semester, and we were asked to write an essay of our choice. I hope you enjoy this...

Follow The Trend, Or

Get Lost Around The Bend

We’ve all had that talk. “Well, would you jump off a bridge if Steve did?” your mother would ask. You would shift your weight awkwardly from one foot to another, maybe twiddle your thumbs behind your back for awhile. “Nooo,” you sigh as you march to your room, thoroughly defeated by the old parental line that dates back to the construction of the first ever bridge.

Everyone wants to do what’s not the norm, what is forbidden, against the law. Acts that can send you into the confinements of a dark, dingy cell for a night. One friend does it, and then the domino affect kicks into play. Soon all the guys are wearing their pants to their ankles, and all the girls own wonder bras. Remember that cool trend in grade school? Whether it be the classic pet rock or the commercial pokemon card, everyone can relate.

It’s in everyday life; where you go to school, work, where you sleep. Don’t even deny you haven’t heard the line: “But everyone is doing it” or “But everyone has one.” I bet ten bucks that you’ve said that at least once, and I’m someone with only ten bucks to their name.

Movie wise, most decades can relate. There is always the bad boy or girl. The fifties had their James Dean. Suddenly the cattle population plummeted to the dyer need for a leather jacket. The seventie's had their Danny and Sandy. Slick the hair back with some grease and wear matching all black, the couple’s coming to town! The side-ponytailers had Christian Slater in Heathers or the cast of Breakfast Club. Yeah, and Johnny Depp in John Water’s Cry Baby. The MTV watching, Vanilla Ice rapping, fanny pack stylin’ nineties had Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles. 2003 brought Jess to Gilmore Girls. The list is endless.

But tell me this: When did the bad boy, bad girl image actually get bad? When did cool and slick turn into drool and prick? It seems that the image has crashed like the stock market. With technology on the rise and urban dictionary in existence, now everything is mocked with a dirty “that’s what she said” or a idiotic “your mom”. Now more than ever the human population is sticking it to the animals with our opposable thumbs toiling away at fancy flip phone text messages.

In daily conversation, instead of saying ‘be right back’ or ‘just kidding’ you hear a prepubescent squeak of ‘BRB!’ or ‘JK!’. Sadly, those who are over the age of twelve do this. Recently a friend of mine was retelling a story and ended with, “And it was so awk.” I finished up with, “ward” only to be confronted with furrowed brow deep in confusion. Do not even get me started with the, “IDK, MY BFF JILL” bit.

So the new cool enforces to be distant, scantily dress, and act like an idiot. Where is the sign up sheet?! I want in! What will ten years generation bring to the table? Will the kids I babysit for be driving their cybercars in their underwear, licking each other’s asses because it’s cool, yelling antics such ‘WCWAJGALTOD‘? Cool is defined as “stylishness that is attractive without being ostentatious”, “used to indicate agreement or acceptance”, or “fashionable and sophisticated”. How are you to be accepted into a sophisticated, unostentatious society while you slouch around, stickers still on your baseball hat slurring, “ya forcin’ it”?

Please, I beg of you, be the one who stops this domino force of nature. Be the domino that is super-glued to the kitchen counter! Don’t succumb to these ridiculous trends that you know fifteen years from now will be looked back upon, cocktail in hand, and laughed at.

Wear a belt, cover up, speak proper English, and maybe put the phone down or turn off the computer for a little bit- it will serve you well.

xx Jill
